Our picks for exploring Denver

We’re thrilled to be hosting WordCamp for Publishers in as cool of place as Denver, Colorado. If this is your first time visiting the mile-high city, or even if you’re a local, be sure to take some time during the week to check out everything the city has to offer. Here are just a few things we’ll be doing:

Play vintage arcade games the 1up

Inspired by Ground Kontrol in Portland and Barcade in Brooklyn, this arcade bar has its own Denver spin (not to mention a very clever name).

Hike near Boulder

Just a half hour from Denver sits the outdoorsy town of Boulder. We’ll be checking out one of the many trails that are easy to access in the nearby foothills and may even stop by the Boulder Teahouse on our way back to Denver.

Visit the Denver Art Museum

The museum has an extensive collection including one of the best exhibits of Western American Art. It is also host to The Western: An Epic in Art and Film—an exhibition that examines the western genre in film, fine art, and popular culture.

Dine in an old mortuary

The Linger Eatuary is located in a mortuary that used to hold the remains of Buffalo Bill. Small details like water served in old formaldehyde bottles pay homage to the space’s origins.

Stand exactly 5,280 feet above sea level

The spot is marked on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol so be sure to commemorate your time in Denver with a mile-high photo-op!

Shop in an historic train station

Union Station Denver is still an operational train depot but also boasts a handful of restaurants and stores like the Tattered Cover Bookstore,  Pigtrain Coffee, a craft-style home goods boutique, and the prohibition era-inspired Cooper Lounge.
